About Matthew Izzi

Matthew Izzi is a trial attorney that has dedicated his education and career exclusively to criminal defense.  During college at the University of South Florida, Mr. Izzi studied English and American Literature, subjects which demand precise reading comprehension and an ability to not only understand but also control language and, ultimately, how to think.  This education lead to Mr. Izzi’s desire to advocate on behalf of those who may not otherwise be able to advocate for themselves.

Mr. Izzi attended the Santa Clara University School of Law, in part for its excellent academic and practical reputation, but also because SCU Law offered opportunities to gain real-world experience early in the education process.  During his first year of law school, Mr. Izzi was a research assistant for the Death Penalty College, a specialized program aimed at training highly select death-qualified attorneys  with the education and practical skills necessary to defend some of the hardest cases imaginable.  During his first summer and throughout the rest of his legal education, Mr. Izzi interned with the Santa Clara County Public Defender’s Office, as well as later with the California Appellate Project and Northern California Innocence Project.

After law school, Mr. Izzi continued his legal career in furtherance of defending individuals whose circumstances or life choices placed their freedom in peril as a Deputy Public Defender.  While a Deputy Public Defender in Shasta County, Mr. Izzi tried dozens of misdemeanor and felony trials, successfully conducted a large amount of preliminary hearings, litigated unlawful search and seizure and other statutory issues, filed writs (one of which was reviewed in the California Supreme Court), and even handled juvenile delinquency and various guardianship and probate matters.  There is not a single constitutional right Mr. Izzi has not handled and successfully defended.

Mr. Izzi is comfortable and persuasive in the courtroom, has robust experience advocating for those being suspected and accused of crimes, has no issue taking the government to task to protect your freedom, and will work tirelessly to achieve a great result.
